About the book:

Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy…

My Review:

I’ve read one other Rachel Van Dyken book and loved it and this one sounded so cute that I just had to read it. It was a fun read and I was totally engrossed but there were several things that caused this one to falter a bit for me.

I get this is supposed to be a take on Cinderella but I honestly didn’t see why Jane put up with her sisters for so long. They were horrible to her with no redeeming qualities and it wasn’t like she didn’t have the ability to leave them. Her promise to her dad was such a tenuous reason and we even see at some point that he even admits they’re pretty horrible. The sisters themselves seem overdone and I may have been able to take them if it weren’t tossed in that they were both lawyers. They’re so clueless I find it hard to believe that they really were lawyers and weren’t fired based on their personality and behaviors.

Brock was just meh to me as well as his character was so all over the place. I felt bad of course that he lost his parents but his reactions to what Jane does in their house are so extreme. I did however love his brothers and they really did make the book. I can’t wait to read both their stories. I also have to say this book definitely had me laughing a lot. The humor is great and RVD’s writing really is a lot of fun.
